12 Days of Childrens' Christmas Prayers
Day 1 : Advent is celebrated the four Sundays before Christmas and begins after Thanksgiving. Advent is a time to anticipate, to wait and prepare our hearts for Christ to be born in us anew.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, help me to wait for what you will show me this Advent. Help me to see that you are with me. Help me see those around me who may bring your love to me. Amen.
Day 2 : It is at Christmas, above all other times, when we should look beyond our own Christmas to help those who may not have a Christmas at all.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, to be with me as my family prepares for Christmas. Help us to care for others as you care for us. Go with us and teach us to love others. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Day 3 : The symbol of Advent is the evergreen wreath which represents eternal life.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, I have learned that our Christmas tree is a symbol of your evergreen love and joy. May its colorful lights and ornaments remind our family to decorate our house with love. May Joy and Peace come and nest in these branches and in our hearts. Amen.
Day 4 : The Christmas tree, the manger scene, the music and carols, and the lights shining in the winter darkness joyfully proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ and call us to come and adore him.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, help me remember the birth of Jesus and keep it in my heart. May I share the evergreen song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men. Amen.
Day 5 : The colors that represent Christmas are: green, signifying eternal life; purple, for the royalty of Christ, blue, for the color of hope, and white, for the birth of Jesus.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, may the colors of Christmas remind me to be happy that Jesus is born in Bethlehem. Please fill our days with joy and help us to share that joy with others. Amen.
Day 6 : Light your advent candles by week, such as the third candle the Sunday of Week 3. Successive lighting reminds us that the light of Christ is growing stronger the closer we get To Christmas and to the birth.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, may the light from this candle warm our hearts, brightening our way, and bring light where there is darkness. As Christmas grows closer day by day, help us to be ready to welcome you now. Amen.
Day 7 : Christmas ornaments are one of the best ways to express the cheer and meaning of the holidays in one of the simplest ways.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, to make a way for you in our busy lives. Help us to see your light and love in our world. Amen.
Day 8 : Christmas is a time to think about how we treat others and being thankful for our blessings.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, that I may help put joy in every heart. By the blessing which Christ brings, teach me to be patient and kindly to all, and have a grateful heart. Amen.
Day 9 : Today, think about the journey to Bethlehem and what Mary and Joseph experienced along their journey.
Thank you, O Loving Father, for the donkey who carried Mary and for the animals that greeted them in Bethlehem.
Day 10 : Pray for a time for peace the world over today and throughout all of Advent.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, teach the lion and the little lamb, teach the cat and the mouse, the hawk and the tiny bird, teach everyone who doesn't get along to live in peace. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Amen.
Day 11 : Anticipate Christmas morning and the joyful time that the birth of Jesus brings the world.
O Loving Father, this is my prayer, may the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen.
Day 12 : Christmas comes with the message of peace for the world as Jesus Christ taught the humanity about giving peace and happiness to others. So began the tradition of giving at Christmas.
O Loving Father and Giver of all good things, the magi travelled for miles to bring the Christ child the first Christmas presents. So may we, too, remember with thankful hearts the love that comes with each present we open. We also thank you for the love you have for each of us, and we thank you for the many gifts that you give us, especially the gift of live itself. Amen.
